As I write this I am thinking back over last weekend where Sue Hawkins and I joined fifty ladies for a stitching extravaganza – two whole days of stitching and chatting to others fellow addicts – it was simply bliss! The Hilton Hotel, (Newbury North) did us proud and the staff could not have done enough to keep us happy. I am not sure that the hotel knew what they were letting themselves in for when they agreed to host this weekend.
You can imagine the noise levels as fellow stitchers gathered for a glass of wine before dinner on the first evening. The guests who had arrived for their first experience of a Together We Stitch event were certainly in the swing of things within minutes.
Sue Hawkins has decided to move on and retire as CSG Technical Director at the end of 2008 and so this was to be her last weekend. We made sure it was a really good one! We are all sorry to lose Sue but after thirteen years we cannot really complain. Sue’s business, Needleworks, has grown out of all proportion since those early days and she needs to concentrate on that rather than try to keep us in order!
Sue and The Rolling Stones
I thought you would like to see her with her leaving gift – there seemed no point in buying her a gold watch as she has not worn a watch since I met her nearly twenty years ago.

A small sample of the finished Christmas projects
A great time was had by all – the food was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves yet again. At the end of the weekend, we always have a Bring and Brag session and I think this was probably one of the best yet. Almost all our guests had brought finished and unfinished pieces of stitching to show and some to ask advice or look for suggestions from the group- a lovely way to end the year of events.
At the end, it was lovely to be able to tell the assembled crowd that one of our guests had been a wolf in sheep’s clothing- Carole Weighill, a regular CSG guest and the very talented owner of Threadneedles of East Grinstead, has kindly agreed to take Sue’s place for the first three weekends next year – at least she had - after this weekend she might have second thoughts!

A Bedouin at Sunset
The decorative camel bags in Jordan and the cushion inspired by them
We have had a wonderful response the latest magazine and the phones have been red hot! I am including some photos of some of the projects, in the hope that, if you are not already a Member of the CSG, you soon will be. I visited to Jordan earlier this year and so enjoyed the visit. I do not think I have been in a friendlier place anywhere – and the deserts are as beautiful as you can imagine. The coloured textiles left me gasping……
Part 1 of the Silverwood Sampler
We have included a new part work in this issue of Stitch That – The Silverwood Sampler. It is a traditional band sampler worked in hand dyed silk thread, silk ribbon and stranded cottons and will be completed in four issues - the first part could, of course, be worked as a stand alone design
In Stitch That, we included booking details of our first three Together We Stitch weekends and I am sorry there have been problems with the Booking Line. I am promised, by the team at Hilton Special Events, that all will be well by the weekend. Fingers crossed! I know that is is frustrating, particularly as the weekends fill so quickly and you are nervous of missing your place.
Now I must leave you for a few days and get on with packing up for the Knitting and Stitching Show at Alexandra Palace where I have Itch to Stitch Classes and will, hopefully see lots of you over the next few days
